Peace Lily

WATER
Peace lilies are very dramatic plants! The leaves will droop when the plant is thirsty, but do not be alarmed, it is not dying!
Water the plant when dry, more often during the warmer months and less during the winter. Always check the soil before watering, feel into the dirt around 10cm and make sure the soil is not still damp. The leaves will yellow and the roots will rot if waterlogged. Left underwatered for too long, and the leaves will start to brown and slowly die.

It is best to water a peace lily by bottom watering:
- Keep the plant in its nursery pot for easy removal from the decorative/cache pot
- Place the potted plant in a larger bucket/bath with water
- Allow the plant to drink for 10-30 minutes
- Remove the plant from the water and allow to drain for 15-20 minutes before going back to its decorative pot
This way the plant will take up exactly what it needs! Watering from the top is also suitable, but it is important to check the water is draining out through the bottom and that the plant is not sitting in water.
POSITION
Peace lilies grow best indoors with good filtered, natural light. Do not expose plants to direct sunlight, the leaves and flowers get easily burnt. The leaves will be browned where there is too much direct sun.
Being from the tropics, Peace lilies love humidity. The best places for them to live in your home is in the kitchen or bathroom with ample bright, indirect light. They can thrive in other parts of the home if there is no draft, you can boost the humidity by keeping them next to other tropical plants! They will also grow well on a verandah as long as you are in a frost-free area.

CARE TIPS
A good amount of sun and energy is key to keeping the Peace lily flowering. Flowers take a lot of energy to produce so they will need extra feed to keep blooming. To promote more flowering in your plant, fertilise frequently during the warmer months and into autumn. It is also important to have consistent, bright indirect light for flowering. The peace lily may flower less during the colder months to preserve energy.
If the flowers don't return at all in the warmer months or your plant has stopped growing, check to see if your plant is root bound.

If the flowers don't return at all in the warmer months or your plant has stopped growing, check to see if your plant is root bound.
The plant is likely root bound if:
- Roots are growing out the bottom of the plastic pot
- Roots growing on the topsoil
- The dirt has lifted away from the insides of the pot
If this is the case, it has simply outgrown this pot and is no longer receiving enough nutrients from the soil - it is time to repot into a larger one! Once adjusted to its new home, it will flower again.
Keep in mind Peace Lilies are not pet-friendly, they are poisonous to animals.
